PONTIANAKGLOBE.COM, KUBU RAYA, KALBAR -- The presence of the Hakka House (Tulou) in Kubu Raya, Kalimantan Barat, has garnered significant attention with its unique and captivating architecture.

This traditional Hakka Tulou adds a new cultural landmark to Kalimantan Barat. Its circular structure, heavily influenced by Chinese aesthetics, evokes the rich cultural heritage of China.

“As one of the largest ethnic groups in Kalimantan Barat, the Hakka House is both an iconic symbol and a source of pride for the people of Kalbar, particularly the Tionghoa (Chinese) community. I want to extend my thanks to the Hakka community for constructing this magnificent Hakka Tulou,” said Harisson, the Acting Governor of Kalimantan Barat, following the inauguration of the Hakka House in Jalan Hakka, Kubu Raya, on Friday, October 11, 2024.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this Hakka House is its use of authentic building materials without plaster. The walls are entirely made of bricks sourced from Singkawang, Kalimantan Barat, reflecting the true essence of ‘Tulou,’ which means a multi-storied structure made from earth.

“I am confident that this Hakka House will become a top tourist destination, attracting local, domestic, and international visitors. It holds a unique history where one building can accommodate up to 1,000 residents,” Harisson explained.

Furthermore, Harisson emphasized that the Hakka House is not only a historical structure but also a vital hub for preserving Tionghoa culture, specifically the Hakka sub-ethnic group in Kalimantan Barat.

“This Hakka House will serve as a center for knowledge and education for the local community while also being a major cultural tourism attraction for visitors from across the region. Moreover, it stands as a symbol of unity among the various ethnic groups in Kalimantan Barat, who have worked together to build this beloved province,” he added.

Cornelis, Governor of Kalbar from 2008-2018, former Vice Governor Ria Norsan, and Windy Prihastari Harisson, the Acting Chairperson of the Kalimantan Barat PKK, alongside all the heads of the Hakka Associations from across Indonesia. ***
