Prabowo Subianto Talks About Regional Elections: Whoever Is Elected, It’s Not a Problem

PONTIANAKGLOBE.COM, JAKARTA -- President-elect Prabowo Subianto stated that whoever is elected in the upcoming 2024 Regional Elections (Pilkada) will not be an issue.

He believes that the people are capable of making their own choices without any interference regarding who should be elected.

He made this statement while attending the closing of the 6th Congress of the Partai Amanat Nasional (PAN) in Jakarta, on Saturday, (24/8).

According to Prabowo, he entrusts the issue of regional elections to the younger members of the party.

“Other matters are not too crucial. Regarding the regional elections, let’s leave it to the younger members. Whoever is chosen, it’s not a problem, there’s no interference, I guarantee there won’t be any,” Prabowo said.

He also assured that there is absolutely no interference from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the regional elections.

Therefore, he urged everyone not to be provoked or instigated.

“I guarantee that President Jokowi has no hidden agenda. President Jokowi never has any hidden intentions. Never. The people have entrusted us with all the power, and we invite them to work together. Our people don’t want to be fooled, provoked, or instigated anymore. We want peace, your future is bright, and the future of the Indonesian nation is bright, but stay vigilant. Eling lan waspodo (remember and stay alert),” Prabowo said.

In closing, Prabowo shared an analogy about building a bridge.

According to him, in the process of building, he wants everyone to work together.

This, he says, is democracy in Indonesia—deliberation to reach consensus.

“I’m telling this as an analogy. We’re in a village, there’s a fairly wide river, and our children have to cross the river to go to school, which is dangerous," Prabowo said.
