Speech at NasDem Congress: Prabowo Expresses Sadness Over Tradition of Insults

PONTIANAKGLOBE.COM, JAKARTA -- President-elect Prabowo Subianto expressed his dismay at the persistent tradition of disparaging leaders in Indonesia.

He lamented that public criticism often targets leaders without consideration of their past achievements.

"I am saddened by our tradition of constantly badmouthing our leaders, resorting to insults," Prabowo stated during the closing session of the NasDem Party's III Congress at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Senayan on Tuesday, August 27.

He highlighted the impressive achievements of outgoing President Joko Widodo, noting that Indonesia has managed to maintain an inflation rate of 2.5%, a feat he said is rare among nations.

"Look around—how many countries have achieved this? Over the past three years, only a few have succeeded. This is not an achievement that fell from the sky," Prabowo added.

Prabowo also commended Jokowi's leadership for Indonesia's rapid recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, underscoring that such accomplishments are the result of diligent work, not mere luck.

"I am not defending anyone, but I will state the truth as it is—right is right, and wrong is wrong," he explained.

Addressing NasDem party members, Prabowo expressed his gratitude for their support of his administration. He urged continued unity to build the nation.

"So once again, thank you NasDem for joining me. Let's unite, cooperate, and demonstrate our commitment to working together for the people of Indonesia," Prabowo concluded. ***
