Prabowo Calls for Unity in NasDem Congress Speech: Let’s Focus on Common Ground, Not Differences

PONTIANAKGLOBE.COM, JAKARTA -- President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized the importance of political leaders coming together to unite their strengths for the benefit of the nation and the people of Indonesia.

Following his victory in the 2024 presidential election, Prabowo expressed his gratitude to NasDem Party Chairman Surya Paloh, who was among the first to congratulate him after the quick count results were announced.

“That’s why, even in the early stages, when it wasn’t official yet and some quick count results were still coming in, Pak Surya Paloh and NasDem were among the first to congratulate me,” Prabowo stated at the NasDem Party’s Third Congress “Synergy for Building the Nation” 2024, held at the Jakarta Convention Center on Tuesday night (August 27).

Prabowo stressed that despite NasDem's previous support for Anies Baswedan, who was his political opponent in the 2024 presidential race, he holds no grudges.

“So, I deeply appreciate it when Pak Surya Paloh informed Muzani that ‘Sorry, Pak Surya, sometimes Brewok [Mr. Beard], wants to come. Oh, really? Wants to join? Alhamdulillah. Thank you. Is that true, Pak Surya? When you came to me, I thanked you. It’s okay that you supported Anies before, it’s okay,’” Prabowo remarked.

According to Prabowo, differences should not be feared, as the most important thing now is for political leaders to find common ground to work together, setting aside past differences.

“We don’t need to be afraid of differences. Our nation chose a republic, not a monarchy, so the people need to be given choices, and we shouldn’t fear differences,” Prabowo said.

“What’s more important is that we must unite and work for the people of Indonesia. The people need leaders who can come together. In every competition, there are winners and losers,” he continued.

Prabowo underscored the need for unity, citing the numerous challenges facing the world today, such as hunger and climate change, which could lead to widespread food shortages in many countries.

“The UN predicts massive famine on this earth, with many countries struggling to produce food. We are still fortunate,” Prabowo noted.

Therefore, Prabowo and the NasDem Party have taken steps to collaborate after the political contest.

“That’s why, as NasDem leaders representing the people, we must dare to think outside the box. We must be brave enough to say that once the competition is over, we must be willing to forget any hurtful words exchanged during the race. That’s just part of the competition,” he concluded. ***
