Husband and Wife from Mempawah Hulu Landak Die After Consuming Toxic Mushrooms

PONTIANAKGLOBE.COM, NGABANG, LANDAK -- A married couple from Desa Pahokng, Kecamatan Mempawah Hulu, Kabupaten Landak, Kalimantan Barat, has died, allegedly after consuming poisonous mushrooms.

Them initial L (male, 50 years old) and initial K (female, 50 years old).

dr Pius Edwin, Secretary of the Landak Health Department, confirmed the incident.

"Yes, it is true," Pius said.

The former Director of Landak General Hospital (RSUD) explained that the type of toxin in the mushrooms is still under investigation.

"It is currently being investigated by the Karangan Health Center team," dr Pius added.

Meanwhile, AKBP Siswo Dwi Nugroho, the Landak Police Chief, through Iptu Suwandi, Head of Mempawah Hulu Police Sector, also confirmed the incident.

“Yes, we received information from residents of Desa Pahokng that a husband and wife died on Friday, August 23, at 08:30 WIB, due to mushroom poisoning,” said the Police Chief.

The Police Chief explained that on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 19:00 WIB, the couple went to the Karangan Health Center with complaints of continuous vomiting after consuming mushrooms they had obtained from their garden in the Payo Marit area near their home.

"After being observed by doctors and medical staff, and due to the patients' weakened condition, it was decided to refer them to Pro Medika Hospital in Pontianak," said the Police Chief.

However, on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 08:30 WIB, after being treated for one day at the hospital, the couple could not be saved.

“According to residents, the couple consumed mushrooms known as jamur beranak or jamur barangan from their garden located in Payo Marit, Dusun Antema, Desa Pahokng,” the Police Chief noted.
