PONTIANAKGLOBE.COM, JAKARTA -- President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto, playfully addressed the Chairman of the National Democrat Party (NasDem) or Partai Nasional Demokrat, Surya Paloh, during the closing of NasDem’s Third Congress at JCC Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (27/08/2024).
Prabowo humorously referred to Surya Paloh as "Mas Brewok" (Mr. Beard), a remark that was met with enthusiastic applause from the party cadres.

Prabowo even joked about his own desire to sport a beard as distinctive as Surya’s.
During the event, Prabowo congratulated Surya Paloh on his re-election as the NasDem Chairman.
“Thank you for the honor of being here. I would like to congratulate my brother Surya Paloh, who might be better known as ‘Bung Brewok’ (Mr. Beard),” Prabowo said.
“I’ve always wanted to have a beard like Mr. Surya Paloh’s, but I could never grow one. So when I grew a mustache, people started calling me ‘Fu Manchu’ (a fictional character). Honorable Mr. Beard, is that alright?” Prabowo said, laughing.
In front of Surya Paloh and hundreds of NasDem cadres, Prabowo reflected on their shared political journey.
He recounted how he and Surya once belonged to the same party.
“Pak Surya and I have come a long way. We are both alumni of the same alma mater, the ‘almamater bringin,’” he remarked.
However, Prabowo noted the differences between then and now. While he was once under Surya’s leadership, today, "Mas Brewok" is now under Prabowo’s leadership.
“The wheel of life turns, sometimes we are on top, sometimes at the bottom. No worries, we must know our roles,” Prabowo quipped.

“I used to be Pak Jokowi’s rival, but Mas Brewok here is smart, he always knows who’s strong,” he added.
